Another walk

You know, when I first moved into town, I was a little dissapointed on the photo opportunities. I thought there just wasn't really that many things to take pictures of on my walks. But, I was wrong. The more you look, the more you find!

Beautiful storm clouds

Straight streets where you can still see the sky.

Peaceful sidewalks with a bower of shade

Fun "secret" walkways

Neighborhood Gardens

Hidden animals.
(Can you see the hidden animal?)

(Don't worry....neither did I. I heard it....maybe a woodchuck or something....but I thought if I took a picture of the general area, maybe I'd find it later, ha!)

Vintage Prints

Well, I'm not really into vintage all that much. But the weekend after tax season, I had a chance to stay home and start sorting through some stuff in closets.

One of the things I enjoyed, was looking through a bunch of old Etude magazines. The oldest was way back from 1908!

Then, I did probably the unthinkable (for someone wanting to save old things in perfect condition). I ripped out pages.

Yup. I did.

It was such a big stack of magazines, and I really liked only some of the articles, pictures, and music in them, I decided to keep what I found useful, and get rid of the rest.

It was a nice feeling to get rid of the huge stack.

I kept this one advertisment for Cream of Wheat.
Mathew looked at me funny when I hung it up in the kitchen. But, I like it for some reason, and I guess I can always change it later :)

The other picture I kept was this old cartoon for on top our piano.
I actually pasted it to an old green cardboard, and glued a black ribbon around it for a frame.

I'll have to let you know about the great articles I kept (about "How to be Charming") in a later post :)

I love green

Bemidji is blooming!
Well, promising to bloom.
And I discovered this new tree bud.
Don't be decieved, this bud is about the size of a walnut!
And it literally explodes into this.

All over the tree.

I feel like I should know what it is....but it's escaped me. But that's okay, it made me laugh anyway when I found it. And now I purposely walk this way on my way home from work.

Happy May Day!

Amazing colors

In the 3 block walk between my house and work, I have seen an amazing selection of colors! All these pictures were taken on the same day! (I just wish it was sunnier, so they would turn out better) I think God has a pretty good eye for color :) Check it out....
Above we have lime green and yellow.

Or perhaps you prefer brown and key lime?

More color to your liking? Here we have orange and mustard.

Or orange and red.

We could go for more of a peach combination...

Or spotted.
A springlike effect perhaps?

Maybe it's time to look at something other than orange......pink hues more your tone?

Or maybe autum and burgendy?

Or even some of that bright color mixed in with maroon?

Maybe you prefer earthy tones...

Camoflauge.

A splash of yellow...

Or red, if you so desire.

Cool colors of wintergreen more soothing?

Or maybe a rich red and brown combination?

Maybe red was too much, we can just soften that same look here.

Perhaps solid colors are more to your liking.

Or solid, but brighter?
It just amazed me at the combinations I found this year. I don't know if it's because of the strange summer and fall weather we had, that we get bi and tri colored foliage, but I love it! hope you do too!

Saturday Fun

I went garage sale-ing early Saturday morning and it was fun!

The first two garage sales I went to were the best. After that, I got a little burned out, and headed back home by 10:30am.

This nice pot will come in handy for herbs, I think.

And this pretty bowl was only 75 cents.

My other "best deal" was a really good cookie sheet for 75 cents too.

How does your garden grow?

I've really been enjoying watching our little garden grow!

Over the weekend, I weeded and invested in a watering can and some miracle grow.
Last night I added some string between the sticks for my peas and morning glories to climb on.
One thing I've noticed, adding good dirt and manure this spring has REALLY helped!

And this is my mystery plant....I think it's a zucchini, but I don't remember :)

Spring

It's spring/summer up here finally. I just can't help but bring some of it inside! My favorites are:
  • pink & white apple blossoms
  • lilacs
  • forget-me-nots
  • tulips

Have you ever done cards or flowers or fun stuff with flowers and their "meanings" ? I remember having lots of fun with this.

Check out some links and fun stuff here:

What Have I Been Up To?

Well, I don't have as much time as usual (due to tax season)..... to contemplate what to post, what to write, different layouts, chit-chat, and such....but there will come that time again.... until then, here is a snippit of what I've been up to:

Attending my brother's wedding in AZ was our most recent adventure.

I started some plants for the first time, and have been tending them with amature care.

I've decided to start recycling. It's been helpful already with projects (more posts to come), though a bit messy.
I've been teaching with Abbi on Wednesday nights. We've been studying the Armor of God, and now are doing stories from Acts.

I've been drooling over places to go, things to see this coming summer.

I had my hair cut.

I've been trying to plan ahead on my grochery shopping and menu planning....plus eating more fresh fruit and veggies. I've had a couple successes...I'll let you see the recipes later :)

And of course, been busy at work. Hope your weeks are going great...and you are enjoying God's sunshine!
Take care,
Emily
