How to Make Powdered Sugar

Last night I wanted to make a strawberry tart, that called for powdered sugar. But, I didn't have any, so here is what I found out:

If I put 1/4 cup granulated sugar in my small coffee grinder....

I get this!

I had to laugh at "emergency powdered sugar". I thought I was the only one! It is the main ingredient to homemade cake frosting though and sometimes you run out, know what I mean?

:)

I resort to the blender since I don't have one of those grinders.

Great tip! I tried this in my food processor, and it was far less successful...

Thanks so much for sharing your ingenuity! We're moving from Germany to Portugal, so the lack of real brown sugar here will turn to a lack of powdered sugar there. Quite a wonderful thing for me to know!

Hi Emily,
I found your blog today - looking for craft ideas for my bible class on Sunday. Great ideas for Elijah craft! I am part of a church of christ too. Thanks for your inspirational and positive words!

or a mortar pestil. Although it is quite a little bit of work. Then I figured out what powdered sugar is called here. Haha It was a good thing because I didn't like the thought of doing without.
